Noise

21 May

Noise.  It seems like it’s all around us now, even in our little slice of paradise.  One of my favorite ways to escape it is an evening mountain bike ride on the VASA trails.  I am usually able to figure out the things that really matter when riding, the noise settles down and my perspective gets a whole lot better.  In the past few years there has been a lot of “noise” about low mortgage interest rates.  Sometimes, it’s hard to sort out hype from fact.  Well here’s a fact: on May 17, 2012, mortgage rates officially hit new all-time lows.  In most cases, available rates are now slightly better than they were in late January.  That’s the last time we reached “new all-time lows.”

That’s good news if you are buying a home.  But what does it really mean?  For one, it means the ability to purchase more home for the same payment.  Or, maybe the home you were looking at the end of last year -that you weren’t quite sure you could afford- might fit into your budget now.  It also continues to extend the amount of home you can buy, while staying within approved mortgage “debt to income” ratios.  The point is, if you have been on the fence as to buying a new home, it’s worth revisiting now.

Of course, buying the RIGHT HOME is the most important consideration, and having a pre-approval letter in hand when you make your offer helps get that offer accepted.  Using a local lender who offers competitive rates and fees, face to face service and walks you through the process can make that easier.  So you can spend more of your valuable time shopping for your next home – or on your bike.

See you on the trails.
